ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

Joanne Schamberg

Name: Joanne Schamberg
Class: 1981
Regis Major: Art
Regis Minor: Art Therapy
Current Employer: Owner, Promotional Solutions, Inc.

Why did you decide to come to Regis?
My godmother attended Regis back in the 1940s. I liked that it was a close-knit, all-women's Catholic college and close to home.

How did your experiences and your education at Regis shape your life after college and your career path thus far?
I found my voice and confidence at Regis. This was largely in part to the smaller classroom sizes that allowed me to build valuable relationships with the professors. I also learned the importance of giving back to the community.

Did you have a favorite Regis professor, mentor, or class that really impacted your life or path?
Sister Louisella Walters was a huge impact on my choice to major in art. She was amazingly kind and a very talented artist who encouraged my commitment to be an art major.

What did you learn at Regis that has served you well throughout your life?
Stay focused and involved in different activities to broaden your horizons. I had an art therapy internship at Boston Children’s Hospital working with children who had cancer, and it was definitely a life-changing opportunity. I ended up volunteering for the American Cancer Society after graduating and then eventually worked for them as a Director of Education and Communications when I lived in Cleveland, Ohio. Now, American Cancer Society is one of my customers and has been since I started my own business. A total full circle experience!

Tell me about your career and your current job.
I launched my own promotional products business 15 years ago and have never looked back. My day is filled with a lot of different things but primarily taking care of my clients’ needs and maintaining relationships with a network of suppliers. Regis gave me the confidence to start my own business. One of my largest customers to this day started through a connection with a Regis classmate at an alumni event.

What one piece of advice do you have current Regis students?
Get involved in activities outside of your normal existence and the reward will be ten-fold. Stay connected to the Regis alumni network.

If you had to describe Regis in three words, what would they be?
Nurturing. Diverse. Focused.
