Masters in special education
Empowering the Next Generation
For Oya Bozkurt, MEd '24, teaching is not just a job—it is a calling. She has dedicated the last 22 years to teaching, most recently as a fourth-grade special education specialist.
“What keeps me motivated is my genuine passion for teaching,” says Bozkurt. “I find immense joy in making a significant difference in my students' lives.”
Recognizing that many of her students experience instability at home, Bozkurt fosters a stable and encouraging learning environment, and witnessing their growth and success serves as a powerful testament to the transformative potential of education.
“I am constantly inspired to improve myself through professional development and to stay updated with the latest educational practices and innovations,” says Bozkurt. “This drive helps me continually adapt and provide the best possible support to my students.”
Although life circumstances such as raising her family and financial challenges may have delayed her plans, Bozkurt proudly graduated with her master's degree in special education from Regis in May 2024.
“Pursuing a master's degree is something I have wanted to achieve for a long time, and I am grateful for the support from Lawrence Public Schools and Regis for helping me complete this journey,” Bozkurt says.
A first-generation college student, Bozkurt carries the pride and responsibility of setting an example for others, honoring the sacrifices her parents made for her education and exemplifying the belief that lifelong learning is crucial for adaptation in the ever-evolving field of education.
Bozkurt is thankful for receiving the Sister Gretchen Bogan, CSJ Scholarship, which enabled her to achieve her dream of earning a master’s degree.
“The generosity of Regis donors has inspired me to give back to my community,” says Bozkurt. “I hope one day I will be able to help students achieve their goals, just as others have done for me.”
